SHEPHERDSTOWN – “On the Wall,” a photographic essay of people of Shepherdstown, will be published as the commemorative book for the 250th celebration of the town’s incorporation.
The book is the work of noted photographer Hali Taylor, longtime resident of Shepherdstown and librarian of the Shepherdstown Public Library.
The Shepherdstown 250 Committee said it is pleased to support the publication of the book, which will include more than 80 photographs of citizens of Shepherdstown.
According to Taylor, “My portraits span 25 years and are of the people who make up the stands of the web of the Shepherdstown community: each one constitutes a unique addition to the mix.”
Taylor has more than 700 photographs in her portfolio, which she began in 1985. The photographs included in “On the Wall” are a cross sampling of the people of Shepherdstown: “… old-timers, newcomers, the many ‘average’ folk who sometimes are anything but,” Taylor said.
The photographs, all in black and white, demonstrate photographic artistry and Taylor’s unique style and fascination with the human face. According to Taylor, “Each portrait contains a moment in a life – complex, mini-universe of human experience, inextricably woven forever into the continually evolving community that is Shepherdstown, W.Va.”
“On the Wall” will be available for purchase exclusively through Four Seasons Books, 116 W. German St., Shepherdstown, at the store and online. Taylor’s book is available for sale beginning Friday at the opening of her annual show at Studio 105, 105 Princess St., Shepherdstown, from 5 to 8 p.m. The cost of
“On the Wall” is $41.50 plus tax.
